American musician and actor Awkwafina debuted with sly rap tracks that tackled racial identity and sexuality with an incisive and humorous perspective, before expanding her reach into Hollywood. Nora Lum was born to Chinese Korean immigrants living who resided in Forest Hills Queens. Her first exposure to music was via the trumpet. Alongside classical music and jazz, Nora Lum started to study hip-hop during her teens. When she was in college, she concentrated on her studies and majored both in women's study and journalism. In a short period during her time in Beijing, Mandarin language classes were offered as well. After graduating, she began to concentrate on music.
